storm water pollution prevention (SWPPP)

With the increase in population, urbanized areas are expanding at a rapid pace. Streets and gutters, also known as storm water conveyance systems oftentimes serve as open sewers for urban runoff from developed properties.  This runoff or “urban slobber,” flows untreated as a toxic soup, laden with trash, debris, chemicals, viruses and bacteria to our creeks, rivers and to the ocean.  To protect our waterways from these urban impacts, strict regulations have been imposed and carry steep fines if not adhered to.

The Kendall Compliance Group has unparalleled experience across a broad range of industries, municipalities, state agencies and other entities including airports, landfills, automotive, food processing, recycling, manufacturing, metal finishing and foundries, oil and gas, and mixed-used development concerns.

We have developed comprehensive storm water management programs for many industrial and municipal clients that have included negotiation of permit conditions; Best Management Practice (BMP) evaluation; and recommendation, design, and development of compliance documents. We understand the importance of developing a program that both benefits water quality and can be feasibly implemented and maintained. We provide our clients with comprehensive (easy to follow) management plans and programs to ensure their industrial facilities and/or municipalities are compliant with all NPDES permit requirements, which include:

  • Notice of Intent (NOI) preparation
  • BMP assessment & consultations
  • Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) development & preparation
  • Monitoring Program development, preparation and implementation
  • Annual Report preparation & submittal
  • Notice of Construction Activities submittal
  • Notice of Termination preparation & submittal

In addition to our compliance experience, our engineers have performed detailed hydrologic and hydraulic studies and designed numerous storm water treatment systems. While working to find a manageable solution to improve water quality runoff generated from our clients from a wide variety of construction, industrial and commercial industries. We regularly work on complex projects to develop manageable solutions to comply with permit conditions and litigation driven requirements for our clients.

We’re particularly known for our ability to create solutions that minimize compliance costs while maximizing environmental protection and to assist with creative responses to litigation matters. To do so, we leverage state-of-the-art technologies, BMPs, our deep understanding of compliance issues, and our strong negotiating skills along with the strong relationships we have developed with regulators at the local, state, and federal levels.
